Two sides promoted to Step 2 at the end of the 2015-2016 season produced a dour encounter at Sand Lane with the Wombats recording a 1-0 win, courtesy of a first half goal.

On a warm afternoon at Sand Lane Sheffield started well and in the 6th minute Louis Phenill turned a pass into the path of Joe Hnad. This was a clear opening but the former Wakey's man's low effort from right-of-centre was comfortable taken by Hampton keeper Adam Hugh. Phil was looking dangerous again soon afterwards, making ground on the right before powering in a cross-shot that evaded everyone in the middle on its way out of play.
